Inakadate's Main Street・メインストリート田舎館
A couple weeks ago when I wrote about the village hall I wrote that it was on the main street in the village. Since then I thought it would be a good idea to explain a little more about what this main street really looks like. For some people it might be easy to misunderstand 'main street' to mean a big or a busy street.
一週間ぐらい前に役場がメインストリートにあると書きました。それ以降、もうちょっと細かくこのメイン・ストリートを説明しなくちゃと思いました。それは「メイン・ストリート」を読んで、誤解して大きくて忙しい道と想像してしまう人がいるかもしれないと思ったからです。
Inakadate's main street is neither big nor busy. It used to be Highway 102, the main road between Hirosaki and Kuroishi, but since the bypass was build about 20 years ago, it is just another narrow curvy road sandwiched between two buildings on both sides.
田舎館のメインストリートはあまり大きくもなく、忙しくもありません。昔は、弘前と黒石を結ぶ国道102号でしたが、 20年前バイパスができてからは、両側が建物に挟まれたせまい道路となりました。
Most of the building are just houses, but there are a few stores and businesses still remaining. Let's start at the village hall and go west to get a better idea of downtown Inakadate. In addition to those I mention below, all along this main street there are buildings and storefronts that appear to have once been thriving establishments.
その多くの建物は民家ですが、いくつかの店や企業が残っています。村役場からスタートして西へ行けば、ダウンタウン田舎館のほとんどを見ることができます。ここで取り上げる所の他に、以前かなり栄えていただろうと思われる店舗の跡をいくつか見ることができます。
Right across the street from the village hall is the Sushi Koma restaurant. Except for one other bar which serves a little food, it is the only place in Inakadate that you can sit down and get a full meal. Next to that is an electronics shop/dry cleaner. The sign says 'electronics shop', but looking in the window it seems they mainly sell light bulbs and batteries.
役場の真向かいには寿し駒という食堂があります。もう一軒少し食べ物を出す飲み屋を除けば、僕が知っている限り田舎館では座って、一人前が食べられる店はここだけです。その隣には電器屋・クリーニング屋があります。看板は電器と書い てありますが、窓から見た限り売っているのは電球と乾電池程度に見えます。
Next to the town hall is the Police Station. 'Station', however is a generous word. A policeman lives here and would help you in an emergency, but for any regular police business, you need to go to Kuroishi. Across from the police station is the Inakadate clinic. I understand that it mainly sees patients who can't make the trip to other facilities.
役場の隣には駐在所があります。駐在所ですから、普段警官が一人がいて、緊急の何かがあったら手伝ってくれますが、普通は、黒石の警察署にいかなければなりません。その駐在所の向かいには田舎館診療所があります。僕が聞い た限り、患者は主に弘前などの病院に行く足がない人だそうです。
Further down the street in the next block is the Shinagawa Fishmonger, the Tooku Trust Savings & Loan, the Fujino Apparel Store (selling mainly women's clothes), a garage for the Kuroishi Taxi, and a small store selling fruits & vegetables.
メイン・ストリートの次のブロックまで行けば、品川鮮魚店、東奥信用金庫、藤野呉服店（婦人の服）と黒石タクシーの駐車場があります。そのブロックの最後に小さな八百屋さんがあります。
After that the main street continues for about one more block before straightening out into rice fields. In that last block there is a restaurant, a bicycle shop, the office for a small construction firm, a gas station, the small bar mentioned above and a small auto repair garage.
田舎館のメインストリートは、まっすぐになって田んぼに入り込む前に、もう１ブロックぐらい続きます。そこには、小さな食堂、展示品がほとんどない自転車／バイク屋、小さな建設会社の事務所、ガススタンド、上で説明したもう一軒の飲み屋と車の整備工場があります。
That's it really. I took the above photos about three in the afternoon by walking almost straight down the middle of the main street. There are a couple of other roads through town (in addition to the bypass) that probably get more traffic, but this one is the main street-- in this great little village.
大体それがメイン・ストリートの全てです。これらの写真は午後３時ごろそのメイン・ストリートの真ん中を歩いて撮ったものです。村にはより多くの車が通る忙しい道があるかもしれませんが、これが田舎館の「メイン・ストリート」です。小さい村ですが住みやすくていい所です。
